Background Information:

On November 28, 2012, school board chairmen and school superintendents across the State received an email from TSBA urging Boards to adopt several resolutions that are a part of TSBA’s Legislative Package for 2013. The Board has already adopted resolutions opposing school vouchers and supporting appointed directors of schools. The attached resolution opposes any legislation to create a statewide or alternate authorizer for charter schools that would bypass locally elected boards of education and usurp the responsibilities entrusted to those boards by their constituencies.

Staff Recommendation:

I recommend approval of the resolution opposing any legislation to create a statewide or alternate authorizer for charter schools.
